Background

Alec grew up in Merrill, WI where, in the third grade, he dressed up as a lawyer for Halloween. He graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Carlson School of Management with a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources and Industrial Relations and competed in debate and mock trial competitions. He worked briefly for Epic Systems in Madison as a project manager before going on to obtain his JD at the University Wisconsin Law School.


An experienced criminal defense attorney, Alec spent over 8 years working for the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office where he handled a wide variety of criminal cases ranging from Disorderly

Alec has extensive training and experience in all types of criminal law as well as civil and administrative experience in cases involving liberty interests.


Prior to joining Johnen and Holevoet, Alec was Associate Director of Career Services at UC Davis School of Law in Davis, California Alec was responsible for counseling students interested in criminal defense before his love of the courtroom called him back to Wisconsin. In his free time Alec has enjoyed coaching and judging mock trial at the high school, undergraduate, and law school levels. He is a former vice president of his local Bar Association and a current member of the Wisconsin Bar and the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
